TLV6001: Output current at output short-circuit condition

Part Number: TLV6001

Hi team,

What does the datasheet description mean "Continuous" at output short-circuit in absolute maximum rating? On the other hand, at electrical characteristics section, short-circuit current shows +-15mA. Does it mean TLV6001 can handle +-15mA as continuously or the device limits the output current and turns off at +-15mA?

Best regards,

Takeshi Sasaki

  • Takeshi-san,

The device limits the output current to approximately +-15mA. Beyond this current  the output voltage is set by the load.

Shorts increase the internal temperature of the op amp, so only one output should be shorted at a time. Of course, it is best not to short the output.

  • Hi Takeshi-san,

In the Absolute Maximum Ratings Table, the input pins' current limits are specified to 10mA or less. The output short-circuit to ground current in continuous conditions is referenced to 10mA (absolute max. rating), since the part consists of current-steering diodes connected between the input and power-supply pin.

The short-circuit current of +/-15mA in Section 7.7 datasheet refers to short-circuit current ratings in transient conditions only.

    Best,

    Raymond

  • Takeshi-san,

    Is your question answered?

Was the question related to input pin current or only output pin current?

  • Hi Ron, Raymond,

Thank you for your kind explanation. The question was related to short circuit output current rating, but the continuous description in the datasheet is came from the ESD current steering diodes rating in my understanding.
