THS4505: ADA4945-1 equivalent

Part Number: THS4505
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS4561, THS4551

Hi Team,

Can you please help with ADA4945-1 functional equivalent.

Regards, Shinu Mathew

  • The ADA4945 is the latest in a long line of ADI FDA's.

This one goes back to a higher voltage process to support 10V operation and adds output limiting features - that pushes it into a much higher quiescent power vs speed realm. It also gives it an industry unique pinout - Maxim had an FDA with output limiting but discontinued it.

The output limiting is a feature rarely offered in FDA's as it is relatively costly and moderately effective - you lose HD as you approach limiting.

So there is really no TI equivalent that I am aware of (there is an older LMH FDA with limiting, much faster and higher power with poor DC). So you have to let go of the limiting feature to move to a TI part. If so,

If you need the >5V total supply, look at the THS4561

If you can operate on 5V or lower, look at the THS4551.

  • Oh and Shinu, I was looking back over some AudioExpress articles and found a recent parametric table pertinent to your question - that is here, these are very low HD more DC precision oriented choices in descending gain of 1 SSBW. What really jumps out is the much higher ADA4945 quiescent current - very good part, but not nearly as power efficient as the others.

And note the gain of 1 SSBW is an easy metric, but kind of deceptive from a gain bandwidth product perspective - for instance, the ADA4940 and THS4551 are almost identical gain bandwidth product, but the ADA4940 is allowed to peak more to get the closed loop gain of 1 bandwidth extension.

  • Hi Michael,

    Thanks for the inputs.
