THS4130: Part runs very hot at +/-12V with no load on outputs

Part Number: THS4130

Greetings!

Using the THS4130 fully differential amplifier with a gain of 20 (20k / 1k resistors), at +/- 12V.  When I power the board, all of these THS4130 parts run hot to the touch with no load on their output.  Is this "normal"?  If I reduce the power supplies to +/-8V, that makes them "finger touchable".  The parts are rated up to +/-15V - am I doing something wrong?

  • Morning Richard,

the typ supply current is a bit high on this part, 12.5mA. At 24V supply across it that is 300mW quiescent,

Not sure which package you are using but say the DGK at 134C/W Tja, that is indeed 40C rise from ambient and you should feel that.

Or, it could be oscillating - had you checked that?
