INA250: How to connect SH+/- and VIN+/-

Part Number: INA250

Hi,

According to INA250 data sheet, "SH+ and VIN+" and "SH- and VIN-" should be connected, but is it possible to connect "SH+ with VIN-" and "SH- with VIN+" as follows?
Is my understanding correct that INA250 current-sense amplifier can be configured to measure bidirectional currents through the reference voltage level applied to the reference pin?
If yes, are there any concerns if these signals are wired on the back side of the board?

Best regards,
Kato

  • Hi Kato-san,

Yes your understanding is correct that INA250 can be configured to measure bidirectional currents through the reference voltage level applied to the reference pin.

It is possible to connect "SH+ with VIN-" and "SH- with VIN+" as proposed, functionally there is no difference other than polarity. However each device is individually trimmed and tested with the default connection to achieve optimal system level performance. When cross connected as proposed, it is possible that some devices’ offset and gain error spec might slightly degrade. As a result unless there is a compelling reason, I would stick with default connections.

    Regards, Guang

  • Hi Guang-san,

Thank you for the detailed information.

    I understand.
