ESD Protection

Part Number: INA226
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVS1400

Hi, staff

The device was damaged as a result of the test that applied ESD of IEC61000-4-2 to IN+ (VBUS) and IN- terminals of INA226.
We plan to use TVS for ESD protection.

I think that connecting the TVS (ESD protection device) near the INA226 pin rather than near the INA226 pin is more effective in eliminating ESD.
Is there any problem with my opinion?

Also, is there any TVS that can be introduced at TI?
Vrwm is 12V.

  • Hi Cafain,

If the ESD discharge location is controlled, which is found in situations where there is an enclosure surrounding the PCB, then I would put the protection circuit at the entry point. On the other hand if it is unknown, then I would put it close to INA226.

As you know there are many discrete TVS diodes to choose from. TI also offers some and you can check then out here. As far as I can see, some of these, for example TVS1400 should work.

If you’re interested in one of these devices and have further technical questions, please reach out to experts here.

  • Hello, Guang san

Thank you for introducing the TVS1400.
    I will think about it.
    Also consider the mounting layout.
