AMC1302: AMC1302

Part Number: AMC1302
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC1301, AMC1300

Hello,

For AC current measurement, Isolation Amplifier AMC1301 & AMC1302 would meet my requirements but during the part comparison of this two IC's, I found there is difference in output bandwidth but there is no information regarding input bandwidth in the datasheet of AMC1302. Could you please help me to know the importance in selecting the IC's with respect to input bandwidth.

Regards,

Kishore

  • Hi Kishore,

I would recommend the AMC1300 and AMC1302 as opposed to the AMC1301. The AMC1301 is an older device and is directly replaced by the AMC1300. There is also a high performance version of the AMC1300 available, the AMC1300B. Since the bandwidth of the isolation amplifier is ultimately set by the digital filter on the output, the input bandwidth specification is not so relevant, hence it not being present in the newer device datasheets. If the bandwidths below are not sufficient, I recommend taking a look at our isolated modulators, such as the AMC1306 or AMC3306.

The AMC1302 has the advantage compared to the others for high current measurements since the input voltage is 5x smaller. This reduces the amount of power dissipated through the shunt resistor while still achieving the full-scale input range.

    AMC1301 BW: 190 kHz (min), 210kHz (typ)

AMC1300B BW: 250 kHz (min), 310 kHz (typ)

AMC1300 BW: 170 kHz (min), 230 kHz (typ)

    AMC1302 BW: 220 kHz (min, 280kHz (typ)

  • Hello Alex,

Below is the block diagram of my application,am using AMC1300B for AC line current measurement. In the datasheet there is no information regarding input BW of the AMC1300B, is this IC will suitable in measuring the AC line current where the converter operating a two different frequency (60khz an140Khz) as mentioned in block diagram

  • Hi Kishore,

This should be fine. The bandwidth of the AMC1300B is 250 kHz (min), 310 kHz (typ), plenty of margin compared to your maximum frequency of 140kHz.
