INA226 If VBus is connected, but unit not powered, will this damage the AD

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA226

Hello TI,

Love your products! Thanks.

I have a question....

If I have an INA226 VBus and GND connected to a battery and the unit is not powered. Will this damage the ADC??

TIA

Richard

  • Hello user6415564,

Thanks for posting to the forum. We hope to provide quick service for your question. We apologize for the non-business hours, weekend delay.

What you described will not damage the INA226. The input voltage ranges of the VBUS, IN+, and IN- pins are independent of the supply voltage. As long as the GND pin is tied to the negative terminal of the battery and system ground, then device does not need to be powered on when applying voltages to these input/measurement pins. This is one of the main advantages of using current sense amplifiers and power monitors.

    Sincerely,

    Peter
