AMC1311: what's Safety Limiting Values for?

Hi,

in the datasheet we have the parameter Safety Limiting Values.

My understanding is that it's calculated from Tjmax and thermal resistance.

I'm confused what this parameter could be used for.

I mean that it's not possible in normal case that the current in VDD1 and VDD2 could reach such a high value.

How could this parameter guide the design of AMC1311?

Hi Howard,

You are right in that under normal operating conditions, the AMC1311 should not see such high current values. The Safety Limiting Values are there to let you know just how hot things can get before you run the risk of destroying the isolation barrier. The AMC1311 may not work correct at these extremes, but the isolation barrier would still be intact.
