AMC3301: AMC3301

Part Number: AMC3301
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC3330

Hi,

I am using AMC3301 for the line to line voltage measurement, but have a few questions related to it as follows,

1). In section 8.2 of AMC3301 datasheet, it is mentioned that the device is used for AC line voltage measurement whereas in the diagram it shows AMC3330 for line voltage measurement. So can you please clarify this? Have attached snaps from the datasheet below.

2). Can you please tell the typical cross current value to be considered for the design? (as I didn't found any related information in the datasheet) And if possible can you also provide the minimum and maximum value of cross current.

3). Want to confirm that is this device suitable for AC Line to line voltage sensing for, 1) For +/- 700V range, 50Hz

2). For +/- 1000V range, 140KHz

  • Hi Kunal,

This is a typo, thank you for pointing it out! I'll send a note to have this fixed.

The AMC3330 is ideal for voltage measurements since it has a high input impedance and a larger input voltage range. The AMC3301 is intended for current measurements.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cross current", can you please elaborate? Do you mean primary current, the current that the device will measure?

If so, it depends on the design of the system. There is not really a maximum or a minimum current that can be measured, it simply has to be designed for. The most important aspect being the shunt resistor, whose size is governed by ohm's law, V = IR.

AMC3330 would be the best device for these voltage measurements and is capable of measuring both ranges.

  • Hi Alex,

We wanted to use the IC AMC3330 for our application but there is some delay in getting the particular IC; we wanted to have a backup for which AMC3301 part was suggested by   and also find the attached response from Tom for the usage of IC for AC voltage measurement.

Please provide a reason as you are suggesting for not selecting the above part (AMC3301) for AC voltage measurement.

The cross current is the current recommendation given for resistor divider network, to size the resistors. For AMC3330, the cross current recommendation is 0.1mA.

  • Hi Kunal,

Yes, the AMC3330 is not released to production yet. Do you have a timeline for your project?

Using AMC3301 for AC voltage measurements is certainly fine, however as Tom mentioned additional calibration attention will be necessary. Using AMC3330 would simply require less calibration attention compared to the AMC3301.

The same cross current of 0.1mA should be fine.

  • Hi Alex,

The timeline of our project is till the mid of October.

For AMC3330, we got a response from your side mentioning that samples can be made available, so can you please tell us the time when we can accept samples.

  • Hi Kunal,

You should have received a friend request from Ravi who can provide additional details.
