Measure AC Current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC1200

i want ti Measure AC 220-18V  Transformer Secondary Side  Load Current from 0-50ma

Any Idea   any Rederence Ckt ?

  • Senthil,

So the secondary side would be +/- 18V correct.  In this case a shunt resistor with a instrumentation amplifier may do the job.  Our current sense amplifiers are normally not able to go down to -18V and one of our lowest voltage parts can go to -16V.

The reason I mention a instrumentation amplifier is because the can get up to +/-18V on the supplies and they have low input bias currents.

If this is on the high side of 220V then you would need to use one of our isolation amplifiers.  See this document.

Once you tell me if either of these work I can direct you to the correct group if this links I sent are not enough.

  • Secondary Side is AC  not DC so there will be no + and - .

My requirement is Connect the Secondary with Analog AC Ammeter  series with Variable POT .i Want to Measure the AC Current thru it.  is it solution what You recommenced.

  • Senthil,

It depends on the voltages you will see at the inputs and the voltages you will have available to power the devices.  The inputs of an instrumentation amplifier as I sent before cannot get close to the supply rails so this may be a challenge for using an instrumentation amplifier.  The AMC1200 you would need to create a supply to power the input and the output side but you also need to take into account the input structure of the AMC1200 as there is a differential input resistance you will need to take into account.
