INA226-Q1: Not use VBUS & Current measurement & Alert functions

Part Number: INA226-Q1

Hi Team,

My customer is interested in INA226-Q1.

Can you help to answer below questions?

1. If they don't use the VBUS for bus voltage measurement, how do they set/connect  the VBUS pin?

2. If the shunt voltage measured is positive, will the I2C deliver the positive voltage (binary) to MCU? If the shunt voltage measured is negative, will the I2C deliver  the negative voltage (complement of the binary) to  MCU?

INA226-Q1 can achieve bi-directional current measurement and make the current be identify by MCU whether it is positive or negative numbers?

3. If the circuit is short, the transient current will be large, then the sensing voltage will exceed the max 81.9mV.  Does this will damage IC?

And if I set the Alert by 80mV, the Alert will be asserted, means the Alert Pin output from high to low?  Can this Alert do some protection for IC?

Thanks

Best Regards

Xing He

  • Hello Xing,

    1) If you are not using it for the VBUS measurement then you will not be able to make the power measurements.  If that is ok then you can connect it to GND.

2)I believe you are correct.  This is the best example I have see BTC Coding Scheme........................................................................................................ 6

    3)  Look like differential you can go upto 40V.  Please see Absolute Maximum Ratings.  Recall these are not functional ranges but absolute maximum that part can with stand.  also pleas see note (2)
