Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I have purchased a nice dac which uses an Burr Brown opa2604 opamp.

Can anyone suggest a good upgrade. I was thinking of the ever popular BB opa627ap but have been told this is quite old and should really consider a modern one.

Can anyone please advise, something which works well in the opa2604's current environment (voltage, current, etc)

  Many thanks in advance. John.

  • Hi Mark,

The OPA1642 is a great drop in option for this device designed for audio applications. The OPA1642 is the audio version of the OPA2141 and the high precision OPA2140.  If you are looking for a newer version of the OPA627, then you might consider the OPA827.  If you need additional information please feel free to give me a call.

  • Hi. Many thanks for the reply.

The dac I have is the firestone fubar 2, what audio differences would I hear between the opa827 and opa1642

Finally how do these two compare against the Burr Brown opa 627

     Many thanks. John.

  • Okayyy forget the last post, found the answer on google. The opa827 seems to be the one, can you advise which browndog adapator to use as i will need 2 to replace the opa2604, the opa827 being single channel while opa 2604 is 2 channel.

     Many thanks.
