INA237-Q1: Current consumption

Part Number: INA237-Q1

Hi all,

I have two questions about current consumption of INA237-Q1. In the datasheet, the current consumption is 640uA_typ when Isense=0V and Vs=3.3V. Can you present how the current consumption goes up when Isense/Vs is bigger if you have any data? Also, how are the current consumptions different between single-shot, continuous-conversion and the one after single-shot (not shutdown mode but not converting)?

Regards,
RYO

  • Hi Ryo,

I don't think that there's any relevant change of supply current. But I would take the 1.2mA maximum current specification to be on the safe side.

  • Hello RYO,

I believe Kai is correct, in that the change in supply current is usually very minimal for those conditions.  That being said, the existing datasheet is for the preview device, and does not have a typical characteristics section. When the device fully releases, it will likely have a typical characteristics section that can help give a better idea of how the part behaves across different conditions.

Also, the mode after the single-shot modes is also just shutdown mode.  This was done for convenience for customers who who want to enable and disable conversions in a bitwise fashion. i.e., 0b0001 bit is for Bus conversion, 0b0010 bit is for Shunt conversion, 0b0100 bit is for Temperature conversion, and 0b1000 is for single-shot vs continuous conversion. So in this case both 0b0000 and 0b1000 have no conversions enabled (ie, shutdown), but 0b1000 retains the continuous conversion setting.
