Here is other constant current drive options, see the attached application note. The application note may seem to be tailored toward small constant current sources, but it is readily scalable to large constant I drive.

Thanks Raymond, I will look at this option too. 

I have already started with the duel Opamp option Kai mentioned. With the single phase I am working on now, I am varying the signal voltage via a pot to alter the current output. I will eventually have 3 of these together to simulate a 3ph generator. I am using the 3 phase voltage as the 3 inputs to the system so I'm not sure how I will adjust the current when I have 3 phases to do all at the same time. I don't want 3 pots. i have just ordered som digital pots so i will see if i can get 3 to work from 1 encoder.
