INA300: Recommended Common Mode Range

Part Number: INA300

The INA300 data sheet includes a Recommended Operating Conditions table that shows the recommended Common Mode input voltage as 12V.

Why is this listed as 12V?.  The INA300 is spec'd to operate between 0V and 36V common mode range.  Other current sense amps show the full common mode range in the Recommended Operating Conditions table.

My customer wants to use the INA on a 24V voltage rail and is concerned that there is some type of limitation based on the Recommended table.

  • The Recommended Operating Conditions table does not specify a minimum or maximum, so it does not actually restrict the input voltage.

The Electrical Characteristics table has a proper VCM specification.

Specifying a nominal voltage in the Recommended Operating Conditions table does not really make sense; it's probably there because 12 V is used as test condition for many electrical characteristics. I guess the two VCM specifications were accidentally exchanged.

  • Hi Mark,

is a typo for sure :-)

  • Hello Mark,

Thanks for reaching out on the forum.  Looks like Clemens beat me to providing the answer.  From what I can tell, a few of our older devices have similar common mode listings in the recommended operating conditions table.  Fortunately, as Clemens pointed out, we do have the range listed in the Electrical Characteristics table.  Figures 7 and 8 also allude to the common mode range being limited to 0 to 36V.  I suspect the old protocol used on our older devices was to list only the nominal in the recommended table and now with time we have evolved to the better protocol of listing the min and max for our newer devices.
