INA122: Application Inquiry

Hello Team,

My customer is using this chip to filter an analog sensor signal with voltage rails of 0 and 5V with a gain of 5 (open circuit gain resistor).  Unfortunately in some scenarios the IC may be subjected to slight impact or pressure by adjacent mechanical components. They have tested this and noticed that the chips are failing with a small amount of pressure or impact on the case of the IC. Is there a spec for this? Is this expected behavior? Are there any more durable components that could be used to replace the INA122UA?

    Before you assume that the problem is caused by mechanical pressure please note that for the single supply 5V conditions the full linear output range from 0.1V to 4.95V applies only for the input common-mode voltage, Vcm, between, 0.5V and 3.5V – see below.

     

    Other than that, it is normal expected behavior that physical pressure exerted on any analog chip standard mold package will cause stress inside the die resulting in an offset voltage shift but we do not specify this behavior. One way to improve such performance would be to use a ceramic package, which we typically do not offer for instrumentation amplifiers because of its exorbitant cost.
