INA226: Missing code

Part Number: INA226

Hello,

I am using INA226 for voltage and current measurements. I've noticed that some codes are never generated by the INA226 ADC. Here you can see the histogram of 8192 samples where I am measuring a +5V rail with 5mOhm sense resistor.:

In the datasheet I saw that typical DNL is <+-0.1LSB which suggests no missing codes however I don't see the maximum limits of the DNL spec. Is it normal to see such missing codes? By the way I've probed the I2C and confirmed that the missing codes are indeed missing.

Kind regards,

Zeki

  • Hello Zeki,

I just reached out to the design team, and they told me that for the current result there could be missing codes depending on the value chosen for the calibration register. For the shunt voltage, you should only see missing codes for the fastest conversion mode without averaging.  This should go away with longer conversion times and/or averaging.
