PCM2912A: Audio Output for 8ohms Mono Speaker with Amplifier

Part Number: PCM2912A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM4890,

Hi there!

In my product I have a single 0.8W / 8ohms speaker from CUI and an analog electret condenser microphone.

My interface to the remote CPU board is USB.

I was planning on using the USB Audio Codec PCM2912A and amplify the right channel audio signal with a LM4890 to drive my speaker. (Mono Audio)

Can you give me recommendations regarding the connection of the Codec and Amplifier? (To match impedances etc)

How do I connect them properly to get the best sound experience?

(EVM schematic and application is only for headphones and not for a speaker)

Thank you in advance!

  • Hi Sandro,

You may try to connect the speaker amplifier input to the output of the headphone driver, if you're concerned about the output being able to drive the amplifier, you may add a unity gain buffer before the speaker amp.

I would recommend to check other amplifiers that have EVM available so that you can evaluate more easily. TPA60xx are usually good options. If this is not a concern then LM device should be OK.
