TPA2012D2: Maximum load impedance?

Part Number: TPA2012D2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM386, , TPA2011D1

I'd like to drive a dynamic speaker element (telephone speaker; see attached for example), but the impedance of those is usually about 150 ohms, with a sensitivity of 100DBspl.

Massive overkill? Wrong application?

In an earlier version of the design, the same speaker is driven single-ended by a LM386 @ 5V, but I'd rather have something a lot more efficient.

Suggestions?

  • Hi Steve,

there isn't necessarily going to be a maximum load impedance for this part, as it could drive an open circuit. My concern would be the Vpeak necessary to get sufficient SPL.

However if the results in the past with LM386 have been acceptable, then TPA2012D2, or TPA2011D1(mono) will work just as good.

In our portfolio these are pretty simple hardware controlled amplifiers.

    Regards,
