DIT4192: AES3 format Byte4 bit6-3 Sampling Frequency

Hello,

AES3 format has channel status data bit to show sampling frequency on Byte4 bit6-3 as attached AES3 specification.

In the case of DIT4192, those bit in Channel Status Buffer are "reserved" as attached datasheet screenshot.

Can we write data to those bit to transmit appropriate frequency rate even "reserved" status?

Hello, you can read but not write into slots that are "reserved".

Is that meaning DIT4192 itself will set appropriate frequency rate to Channel Status bit following inputted PCM data rate?

In another word, the customer cannot modify Channel Status bit from this automatic setting function.

To select the device for new design, the customer wants to confirm this matter.

If we can buy a EVM the customer will read out those bit, but there is no inventory the EVM.

Is there any way to confirm it?

Hello, These are very mature devices and we don't have any EVM in TI samples. user can not write into reserved slots but the device itself writes the frequency rate to channel status and user can read it.

Hi Arash,

Our customer give us valuable verification result of this matter.

They have used existing EE which employed DIT4192. Channel Status bit is changed by inputted PCM data sampling rate, as stated "COMPLIANT WITH AES-3, IEC-60958, AND EIAJ CP1201 INTERFACE STANDARDS." on the datasheet.

BTW for the new socket of this matured device, do you see the issue for more than 5-years products life time from now?

I don't predict the end of life time to be near with these devices . I will double check with our marketing and if I hear otherwise I will report to you. So unless you hear from me in the next few days, you can be confident the end of life is not near.
