Yes, you should be able to directly read and write registers, what is the issue? I can get you access to PurePath Console software which will have an interface to read and write over USB, which is a good starting point, but I assume you want to get to the point you can do it from your firmware. With PPC3 it will allow you to develop register scripts that you can then port to your firmware.

The problem is likely simple and fundamental, like ground or voltage levels. I attempted to capture the USB transactions over I2C, but haven't been able to see any traffic at all with my scope.  Obviously there is some because pulling the jumpers makes the USB enumeration give invalid results.

I was just looking for an newbie instruction guide but wasn't able to find anything yet.

I just received permission for the PurePath tool, so I'll start there.

What hardware are you using to translate USB to I2C? Is the circuit on the EVM or something external. How to you initiate the transactions from you PC?

Oh I was just probing the I2C lines at power on to see what was happening.

The PC enumerates the EVM correctly with the SCL/SDA jumpers in place, but not if they are removed.

My plan is direct connection with a Raspberry PI 4 until the real hardware shows up.
