TPA3255EVM: TPA3255EVM vs TAS5630PHD2EVM for Bass Guitar Amp

Part Number: TPA3255EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3886, TAS5630PHD2EVM, TPA3221EVM, TPA3255, TAS5630

I've designed several Guitar and Bass amplifiers around the LM3886 Cass A/B IC and I check TI website every week hoping for updates for inventory to return. Its been over 6 months and I'm ready to try Class-D designs. I'm thinking about ordering a TPA3255EVM to start building a Bass Guitar Amplifier around but I want to know what is the difference with TAS5630PHD2EVM? I want to build a robust design and I want something that would be optimized for Bass guitar application. I rather have a robust amp with 400w than a stressed amp trying to do 600w. Please if you can recommend another model or configuration, I'm open to your suggestions. I'm also looking at ordering a TPA3221EVM  for a 200w Guitar amp design to compare to my current 200w discrete and LM3886 Class A/B versions. Do you recommend any particular model that has been proven for guitar under 100w ?

Thank you

E. W

  • Hi Ervin

we cannot say which one is much more suitable for Bass Guitar Amp.

considering power and THD, tpa3255 seems much better than tas5630.

I am not sure which amplifier less than 100w is more suitable for Guitar amp, but i think maybe you can consider tpa3118, tpa3116, they are all widely used by our customer.

    thanks.
