TAS2562: tuning the TAS2562 with a CC8530 as the host controller

Part Number: TAS2562
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC8530, TAS2557, TAS2781, TAS2563

Is it possible to tune a smart amp with the purepath console 3 software through the CC8530 chip? I have just about finished the xml file to integrate the TAS2562 in the purepath wireless configurator, but I cannot figure out how the amp could be tuned in the end product. I am going to use the CC debugger to program thee cc8530 and tas2562, but would like to take full advantage of the IV-sense features, which I can't seem to find a way to do without having to use and purchase a separate evaluation board.

Thank you,

Austin Petty

  • Hi Austin,

Can you comment on what features you're planning to tune on TAS2562?
This device is a non-integrated SmartAmp, which means it can collect IV-sense data and send it back to the host processor, but all the signal processing features are implemented outside of TAS2562.

  • I see, I had a misunderstanding of the capabilities of that smart amp. If I were to use say the TAS2557 would tuning it be possible with the CC8530? I still am unable to find a way to link between the two pure path programs.

  • Hi Austin,

Sorry for the confusion, I'm supporting the audio devices so I just noticed CC8530 has a dev software with a similar name. Let me double check on how these two devices would merge and give further details later today.

  • Hi Austin,

I've been checking the different alternatives however at the end you would need an evaluation module for the amplifier you're tuning. This would be the easiest way to evaluate and debug the amplifier, even for our latest device where we have a "wired" In System Tuning, the same evaluation module is used as I2C controller for the end application:

There is no direction connection between the two PurePath software platforms.
You would use PurePath WL for CC8530 configuration only, then PurePath Console 3 would be used to generate the required configuration for the amplifier which is available in different formats like .bin or .h, depending on the amplifier you decide to use.

As for the amplifier options I would suggest to go for one of the latest releases:

    • TAS2781 features integrated DSP to run our most recent speaker protection algorithm, along with other audio processing features like DRC, EQ, etc. This is non-boosted amp with capabilities for mid power range supplying up to 23V
    • TAS2563 also features integrated DSP for speaker protection algorithm and audio processing features. This is a boosted amp which requires only 5V rail as it's able to boost up to 11V internally.

Let me know if you have any further questions related to the audio amplifiers.
