PP-SALB2-EVM: what are the uses of PP-SALB2-EVM board.

Hi Ivan,

I have some queries below related to PP-SALB2-EVM board.

Q1. https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaa952/slaa952.pdf shows speaker characterization using PP-SALB2-EVM board. So this board is used for only speaker characterization or there are other applications also?

Q2. What types of problems we might face if we are not using this board for speaker characterizations rather using the parameter provided by the speaker manufacturer.

Q3. What is the difference between speaker characterization done with and without  PP-SALB2-EVM board.

  • Hi Mukesh,

    1. PP-SALB2-EVM is mostly used for speaker characterization. It can also be used for algorithm verification in case you want to measure the actual excursion using a measurement laser attached to the learning board.
    2. There should be no problem if you use the vendor provided speaker parameters as long as all the information is correct and complete. These parameters define the model the algorithm uses to estimate the temperature and excursion.
    3. You may refer to Q2 above, but difference is just the means to obtain the speaker parameters.

    Wanted to know exactly what all parameters are verified using the external board? For examples parameters like:

    1. Spl vs frequency
    2. Impeadance vs frequency
    3. Thd vs frequency
    Apart from these there are TS parameters.

  • Hi Mukesh,

    SPL and THD are measured only with microphone, PP-SALB2-EVM is not required/used for these measurements.

    Impedance vs frequency is obtained as part of the speaker characterization by using the IV-sense data and the PP-SALB2-EVM processing; a model is fitted based on the test. This model is based on the same TS parameters you've mentioned.

    Q1. So we will be only getting the real TS parameter or we will also get the offset between Theoretical and Real one?

    Q2. What are the other parameters we will get using PP-SALB2-EVM board?

    1. Not sure what you mean by theoretical and real TS parameters. During speaker char, the hardware (EVM and PP-SALB2-EVM) is used to obtain TS parameters; alternatively, TS parameters can be input directly from speaker char from its vendor. Either way, once speaker char parameters are input or obtained, you can see the comparison between measured and fitted impedance plots in PPC3 like the below:
