TPA3128D2: TPA3128 output protection

Part Number: TPA3128D2

Hi Support team,

if adding the higher signal ( 30-40Vpp, DC offset is 0V )  on the OUTPR or OUTNR when the amplifier is under OFF mode. or the amplifier is disabled.  Will the high-side MOSFET or low-side MOSFET of the amplifier be damaged? Please advise and explain it. Thanks

Regards

Kelvin Lo

  • Hi Kelvin

when the device is in off mode, it is equal to open circuit.

adding voltage to an open circuit, no current will follow through.

also no damage will happen except your voltage is very high like several hundred or thousand voltage that can shoot through the open circuit.

    tks.

  • Hi Jesse

If the external circuit of the TPA3128 amplifier is short-circuited while the PVCC amplifier is in operation, causing a short circuit between the PVCC and the output terminal of the amplifier, what will happen? Please advise, thanks

  • hi feng

    does the amp still work?

if this situation happen, large current might flow through amp, oc might be triggered.

and device will go to hiz mode.

    tks

  • hi Jesse

nope, the AMP at off mode

we found a situation when the external circuit burned, resulting in OUTPR and  OUTNR of TPA3128 short with another AMP(BTL MODE, PVDD+-156V),  and the another AMP have a large signal (40V) output , will damage the TPA3128, made it PVCC short with outpr and outnr. we think the situation is due to the high side mos / low side mos were be damage , could you please advise about the Vgs range of the TPA3128 output side mos?

  • hi feng

can you draw me a simple figure explain how your amp been connected and where you consider they are short?

i am not very sure i am understanding you actual situation.

about Vgs, usualy if it be over 5v, Vds on, then the mosfet will work.

    thks
