PCM2706C: (DC pop noise related) Inquire about mute setting

Part Number: PCM2706C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2705C, PCM2704C

Hi, TI support team

The customer company is reviewing the development by applying the PCM2706C product.

Pop noise occurred during review, so we would like to inquire about the following.

Audio output of PCM2706C uses Analog output and I2S is not used.

I want to set the audio output to mute by default and release the mute after the power is stabilized.

Is it possible to set the function above?

In the datasheet, it seems that there is a register address for mute as below.

How can I set the default mute and design it so that pop noise is not output?

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hello MJ,

Thank you for reaching out. Muting the output until the power is stabilized is a good strategy to prevent popping.

The PCM27xx family has hardware (PCM2704C/6C) and software variants (PCM2705C/7C). For the PCM2706C the mute function can be controlled using the HID0 pin (pin 22) on the chip. This can be held in the muted by an external controller's GPIO pin until the supplies are stable.

    Best,
    Andrew
