DRV134: Datasheet Clarification

Part Number: DRV134

I'm looking at the datasheet for the DRV134PA and I see a listing of 17Vrms output swing and on the graph of supply voltage vs output swing it shows roughly 19Vrms at +/- 18V. I also see that the max supply voltage is 40v or +/- 20V, but 17Vrms equates to +/-24V which exceeds the max supply voltage. Is this a documentation error or is my understanding of these specs limited?

  • Hello Andrew,

The output swing on the DRV is 2.5 V typical from the supply rail positive and 1.5 V negative typical. The easiest way to look at it is from this perspective in parallel with simulation. If I over drive the output as seen below you can see that the output cannot exceed the power supplies. The model isn't perfect however it demonstrates that the output cannot exceed the supply rails. The abs max is +/- 20V where as the specified recommended supply is +/- 18V max. The output swing will be further from the supplies as load current and temperature increases. This can be seen in figure 14 below.

I hope this helps clarify the output swing limitations.
