PCM5242: To drive a headphone

Hi team,

I noticed PCM5242 needs an external headphone AMP to drive a headphone.

Is this because the PCM5242's output current not enough to drive a headphone? Can't we just directly connect a headphone?

Hi Jay, if you look at the output impedance drive capability in datasheet, you see that it needs min of 5K Ohm otherwise can not drive it. Headphones usually have impedance in the range of 8 to 600 ohms.
