PCM3168A: Weak distorted audio from adiacent channel

Part Number: PCM3168A

Hello,

we are using PCM3168A in several projects from years and works very well.

However in some devices, after some use (like months), an issue similar to crosstalk raised:

If we play some sound on channel N, a distorted weak signal is audible on channel N+1. The distorsion is similar to an audio file played at a higher speed (something like chipmunk) and the signal is about 30dB lower than the real channel
We discovered that replacing the PCM3168A fixes the issue.

Do you have any hints on what can generate this?

Thanks,
Michele

  • Hi Michele,

The Channel Separation spec (aka cross talk) is at minimum 98dB. I see you've already tried replacing the IC but have you tried taking the failing device and putting it on a new PCB? Does the device fail immediately or does it take time like before?

I'd also ask you to double check the Absolute Maximum table against your system. This sounds like the device might be damaged.

    Best regards,
    Jeff McPherson
