TAS2781EVM: V/I sense measurement doesnt plot using tuning mode on PPC3

Part Number: TAS2781EVM

Tool/software:

Hi,

I’m having issues with reading/plotting the voltage and current registers. I was able to play a 50hz -3db sine wave and confirmed the measurement of the voltage across the resistor 1.5R as my load speaker of the EVM. The volt meter is currently measuring ~1Vrms but the V/I plotter of the PPC3 is not showing the waveform of 50Hz 1Vac.

See setting below on tuning mode..I have manually enabled the tx/rx thru register maps and plotter still doesn't work. Also disabled any filtering inside the device.

The EVM board is powered with a 9V 1A power pack..

The TDM setting on the transmitter for adding slots for V/I sense is greyed out and couldn't add except the gain parameter on the dropdown. I wonder what I'm missing here

  • Hi Jose, i had the same request come from earnest so let me share the same response here

    to view IV-sense in the verification window(ROM Mode) you should;

    1) visit the tuning and audio processing page, this will automatically configure the device

    2) Then open the verification window, select voltage sense and current sense in I2S mode

    3) press start and play audio

this should be recording voltage and current data.

It looks like some data is being recorded. One thing to note is that if the default characterization data is being used then the output could be greatly limited by the smart amp algorithm. if you are using a speaker you should ideally characterize the speaker, or at least measure the speaker Re with a DMM and enter that value into PPC3. this should help with the low level of the audio

also, to ensure that the IV is recording properly, Can we try recording I and V in ROM mode (Simple amp mode) using a recording software such as audacity https://www.audacityteam.org/

    1) go to device control page

    2) in the upper right of the window select the drop down which says "tuning mode" and select "ROM Mode"

    3) scroll down and find the "TDM" panel, select "Transmitter" then "Configure Slots"

    4) set the transmitter as below, and press "save"

    5) in audacity make sure the "Audio setup" has the TI USB device selected for playback and record

    6) in audacity select generate -> Tone and then enter the parameters like 1000Hz and 0.1Amplitude.

    7) Press Shift+R and the tone should be heard at the speaker and the IV data is recorded

    Regards,
    Arthur

  • this has resolved the issue.. the only thing missing instruction is the microphone on the system sound setting should be TI audio to be selected. after this the audacity and verification windows on the PPC3 work perfectly..

Verification window doesnt have a zoom in and export function.. maybe this is a good addition to have on the next version of the PPc3..

    thanks for the support

  • Hi Jose,

glad it is working, We are actually adding an export feature in the next planned release of the PPC3 GUI
