TLV320AIC3120EVM-U: How To Use Differential Input

Part Number: TLV320AIC3120EVM-U

Tool/software:

Hello,

I'm wondering how I might connect a microphone to the EVM and configure the EVM for a differential input through the CodecControl GUI.  I have a function generator connected between MIC1RP and MIC1LM and the following configuration set in the GUI:

This sort of worked, but not until I turned my function generator up to 600mVpp and the signal was extremely distorted.  I'd appreciate some assistance in figuring out the best way to connect the input differentially and how to configure the part.  Thanks.

  • Hi Scott,

Apologies for the delay, many of our engineers are out of office, please expect a response early next week

  • Hi Scott,

In the configuration you posted, the MIC1LM signal would get sent to the comparator op amp but not the summing circuit (the top Σ in the picture). To achieve a differential input, you will need to sum two microphone outputs, a "plus" (P) and a "minus" (M). Try this configuration, and if your microphone signal is on the right channel of the 3.5mm jack, you can switch the MIC1LP and MIC1RP switches in the GUI.

Let me know if you need any more help.

    Regards,
    Mir Jeffres
