Hi All,
I have some questions for TAD5142.
(1) I used it as a headphone amplifier, but does it have OCP on the output?
(2) In answer in (1), if an OCP is installed, will the Rch also stop when the Lch detects OCP?
(3) In answer in (1), if an OCP is installed, what is the OCP threshold current?
(4) I would like to use the TAD5142 in a single-ended configuration like the TPA6139A2. In that case, how should I set MD4 and MD5?
Or can't I use the TAD5142 single ended like with the TPA6139A2?
Best Regards,
Ishiwata
Hi Ishiwata,
In general when OCP is detected it should shut down both channels, and Single-ended output is for Line-out only. But let me get the answers verified first.
Let me get confirmation from design team and will answer by Wednesday.

Arash
Hi Arash,
Thank you for your reply.
I look forward to your answer regarding single-ended output.
I have an additional question.
The headphone load range has a minimum of 8Ω and a maximum of 300Ω.
I understand that the minimum is 8Ω due to limitations in the driving capacity.
Why is the maximum specified as 300Ω? Please tell me the reason.
Best Regards,
Ishiwata
Hi Ishiwata
The device has OCP but since the threshold is not mentioned in the datasheet I cannot give you an official number, I can say that by design the estimated threshold is around 160mA . Also if Rch detects OC , only Rch gets shut down.
Headphone amplifier can be used in SE config.. it can do both line out and headphone.
Regarding the 300Ohm I checked with design team and the number is simply for power saving, as we save power by knowing that we need not draw as much power as we draw if we were to support 300 ohms or smaller.

Arash
Hi Arash,
Thank you for your reply.
I have some additional questions about the Single-ended Output of the Headphone Amp.
(1) When using with the Single-ended Output of the Headphone Amp, please tell me the MD5 and MD4 settings.
(2) Can Figure 6-9 be applied to the Single-ended Output Connection of the Headphone Amp?
Also, does the Headphone Load Range apply to the Single-ended Output of the Headphone Amp from 8Ω to 300Ω?
Best Regards,
Ishiwata
Hi Ishiwata,
I am checking with design team as my understanding was only Line Out can be single ended per table 6.9. I will let you know by Thursday.
Regards,
Arash
Hello, As I mentioned on the first post only Line Out can be single ended ( table 6.9) . However it can be done on other variants (SW control) of the family of these devices where you can burn B0_P254_R9_D[3:2] to 2'b01.

Arash
Hi Arash,
Thank you for your reply.
I understand that the TAD5142 is a headphone amplifier and cannot output single-ended output.
Is this understanding correct?
Best Regards,
Ishiwata
Yes, that is correct, TAD5142 can not do SE headphone amp.
