TAS5713 250Khz OUTPUT?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5713, PCM1808

Hi,

I am following this sequence after hardware is initialized:

1. send 0x00 to register 0x1B.

2. send 0x00 to register 0x05.

Signals LRCLK (8kHz), SCLK(512kHz) and SDIN are connected at power-up.

1) If I follow the above sequence with MCLK(4.096MHz) also connected to TAS5713 at power-up, I get no output on PWM ( 0 V ) and there's PLL Error in Error register. I read 0x94 at Register 0x00.

2) If I follow the above sequence with MCLK(4.096 MHz) disconnected I don't have PLL error and PWM output is at 377.5kHz 50% duty cycle. If at this stage I apply MCLK(4.096MHz) to TAS5713, then PWM output becomes jittery and there's still no PLL Error. If I vary input signal SDIN (I am using PCM1808 in Master mode (512 fs) with 4.096 MHZ MCLK), there're no visible changes at PWM output.

In case 1) described above I was getting 250 kHz switching at PWM output before; but since I have swapped 4.7nF and 47nF capacitors on PLL_FLTP and PLL_FLTN I have started getting 377.5 Khz.

Thanks,

  • Hi Manish,

The default start-up state of the device is in "Mute" condition. If the input I2S clock's are "clean", you should be able to see the output PWM modulating when the device is "un-muted" with a SDIN input. The I2C sequence described in the earlier post did not include a write to the volume register (0x07). If you haven't tried it already, please include an update to the register 0x07  to set the desired volume level (e.g. send 0x30 to set a 0dB volume level).

Also, do you have a TAS5713 EVM? You can try providing the I2S clocks from your system to the EVM to verify the clocks are valid.
