Search for Audio Power IC working at 1,2 - 1,5 Volt

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM4916, TPA6100A2, LM4808

Hello,

i'm looking for a power audio IC, working with 1,5V and very low quescent in mA (under 2mA)

I found the LM4916 looks good for working with a 1.5v battery / 1.2v cell

the only problem with this is the 10pin MSOP package:-(

Is there another IC in SMD or 8DIP package working also at 1,2v ?

thanks, Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

I've done my own search on the specs you've provided and unfortunately I converged onto the same part you have. It seems that most of the ICs for this voltage, current and power level are meant to be in a package as small as possible for portable applications; hence many are in MSOP packages.

There is the TPA6100A2(6101 & 6102) in an SOIC, however, their minimum operating supply voltage is 1.6V. TI has many boost converters that could open up a larger list of amplifier possibilities as another option.

Is there some limitation of why an MSOP can't be used?

    Best Regards,

    JD

  • Hello John,

    >Is there some limitation of why an MSOP can't be used?

Yes, my hands and my technic:-) i simply don't know how to solder 10 wires on 3x3mm :-(

1,6v is too high, the amplifier must work perfect at 1,2-1,5v from 1 cell ore 1 battery. Now i use a simple MPSA18 transistor with a outputtransformer (windings made by myself 250 ohm to 4ohm) and a 2 laudspeaker 2x 16ohm....that gives me moderate sound and total consuption of 2mA.

I also use insted of Outputtransformer (who kills ca 40% while transforming) 10 smole lautspeacker in series with each 45 ohm = 450 ohm...but this is too big!

i have a plan with 4 mpsa18 in AB-Mode at 1,2v works very fine and laud, but min. consuption is 12mA and max ca 30mA...that is too much for solarcell directdrive.

Thanks for the TPA6100A2, this is like the LM4808. I have 4 samples of this in mini 8-pin SMD package....but both don't talk at 1,2-1,5 :-)

    I buy a mini-radio from e-bay wit stereo-fm working with 1,2 VARTA-Cell, it has a stereo audio-amplifier TA8106, this is working perfect at 1,2v...but i can't find this TA8106 :-(

By-the-way, do you know where i can find loudspeakers with impedance of 200 ohm or more?  In old TVs with tubes there was laudspecker with ca. 750 ohm inside, so it hase a big coil with many windings - with this you don't need any outputtransformer with his 40% of loose.

    thanks
