Hi all!
As you know, the PCM2707 USB Audio device is capable of S/PDIF output (besides I2S).
I have a couple of questions regarding using a galvanic (i.e. not toslink) cable for S/PDIF signal transfer (i.e. to a separate Receiver):
1. Can the S/PDIF output of the cip directly drive the signal through a 10 feet cable or do I need like an amplifier or a line driver for this?
2. Is additional ESD protection on the output (like a transformer or similar) required or is the device protected in it self?
Hanns,
1) The PCM270x only has 2mA output drive on the S/PDIF output, and thus a line driver or amplifier is recommended. A good example for this could be found on the PCM1808 EVM User's Guide (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sleu078/sleu078.pdf) on pg. 16.
2) The device is protected up to 2kV HBM.
