TAS5706B one channel use

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5706B

Good morning.

I'm using a TAS5706B in a dual mono configuration, so I have two IC for a stereo amplifier.

I use channel A and B in BTL mode.

First question:

can I miss to connect the components to channel C and D.

C and D channel are in shutdown mode during normal working time. In the attached picture you have the current configuration that I'm using without any problem. The idea was to remove at least R16, R19, C69, C77. Could it give a problem?

Second question:

during amplifier stand by I want to reduce power consumption removing 18V voltage, in this way I can disconnect one AC/DC converter. During this time the 3.3V should be still prersent. Could it give some problem to IC the missing of only 18 V power supply?

Thanks for support and BR.

  • Hi Giulio,

For your first question, answer is Yes. To do it, channels C & D should be placed in shut-down (update register 0x19 to x3A). This command should be issued prior to exiting shut-down (i.e. write to register 0x05).

On the second question, the 18V can be disconnected in stand-by. Optionally if feasible, place the device in mute before disconnecting 18V to minimize potential pop/click.

Can you post the application details? Are >48K sample rate &/or closed-loop amplifier requirements for the application? If NOT, we have several newer parts that can possibly be used.

By mono, do you mean the output's are used Single-Ended? Since two outputs are un-used on each amplifier, I am wondering if just one IC can be used instead for the 4 outputs?

  • Thanks for your reply Ravi.

The application needs 192kHz and close loop. For dual mono I intend the audiophile mean so, I made a full symmetric design using two IC.

Now thaks to your answer the PCB is more clean removing the unnecessary components.

    BR
