TAS5706B stereo downmix for PBTL

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5706B, TAS5706

Is it possible to input a Stereo L and R signal into the TAS5706B and use the 7-Band EQ in PBTL mode?  The signal needs to be summed within the chip as well.

If yes, then how?

  • Joseph,

The 7-band EQ can be used in PBTL mode. (note that the device only supports post LC-filter PBTL).

The device does not have a mixer node option to sum L,R signals.

The TAS5706 is a relatively old device, unless 192K Fs rate & closed loop power-stage are key requirements, a newer device would probably work out better.  If you can list your application requirements I can shortlist a couple of newer devices for you (with features like pre-filter PBTL & L+R mixing support etc. possible)

  • Ravi,

The Fs rate is not as important as the closed loop power stage.  So it seems that if I want to use this chip I will need to have a signal premixed before entering the device?

We are looking at this chip due to built in 7-band EQ, limiters, closed-loop power stage, 40W-50W total output into 4 ohms.

Any suggestions you have would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Joe
