Power supply for TAS5612A

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5612A

I am considering using an unregulated rectifier from a toroid transformer to power the TAS5612A. PSRR is 80 dB in optimal conditions, so I am guessing using a big transformer and big caps is not a problem with this amp.

Or am I stuck having to use a regulated Linear or SMPS with this amp?

Any comments or suggestions?

  • Hello Jim,

Though this is for a different set of amplifiers, you may find this app note useful in design for unregulated rectifier.

The TAS5612A data sheet has a useful section on "Power Supplies". It indicates that the 12V supply should be regulated, but doesn't specify for the power-stage supply, but likewise stipulates low noise and low impedance. There is also a mention about capacitor selections under the greater section "Application Information", as well as "Printed Circuit Board Recommendations".

    Best regards,

  • Hi, Jim,

In addition to what Arnold posted, I would add that I've never seen a customer do this, but the closed-loop nature of the device should reject the 60 Hz ripple very well. If you do decide to give it a go, let us know how it works out.
