PCM3794A PCB recommendations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM3794A, PCM3794

I'm using PCM3794A Audio Codec. I'm looking for some PCB recommendations, focused on the grounding issue

The grounding recommendations are not clear. Do I have to design separate ground traces? Can I connect PGND and AGND to the same AGND plane? Do I need plane for AGND or it could be just routing.

  • Hi, Valentin,

This is not a focus device. Any chance we can change a focus device like TLV320AICxxxx?

  • Dear Don,

Let's assume that we are one moment before closing the PCB design and we have no time to evaluate new codec.

The Audio Codec is only one part of the full PCB and the Audio is just one of the side features, so I don't think we'll postpone the tight schedule, to consider better solution, for the Audio feature.

Maybe for the next generation, we'll do this kind of consideration. What would be the recommendations, regarding the grounding issues?

The PCM3794 presents 3 different ground pins, DGND, PGND and AGND. Shall we keep any plane, underneath the component? Which of the 3 ground signals, should be connected to such plane?

    What about the other 2?
