About TAS5721 current limit problem...

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5721

Dear sirs,

Is there anyone know the TAS5721 current limit spec. that list in datasheet as below?

My customer used 2 stereo+1 mono BTL configuration.(BTL AD mode)

AS datasheet, the over current limit is 3A.

Is it for total output power or each channel?

Customer found while they trying to volume up to certain level, the output audio intermitted always.

And regard the audio intermitted issue, is there any suggestion for debug?

Thanks.

  • Hello Peter,

The overcurrent protection of the TAS5721 is independent for each channel. When the overcurrent condition is present at any half bridge of the output stage, the protection system latches all the outputs in a high impedance state. The device will attempt to restart after a time (set in BKND_ERR Register  0x1C).  If the condition persists, then the outputs will be shutdown again and the restart sequence will continue until the overcurrent condition is removed.

The overcurrent condition can be monitored with Error Status Register (0x02, bit D1). You can verify if the audio intermittent issue is related to the shutdown-restart cycle by comparing the intermittent time in the output with the recovering time value set in the BKND_ERR Register  (0x1C).
