TPA2100P1 - how does short circuit protection work?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM48580, TPA2100P1

I'm thinking about moving from the LM48580 to the TPA2100P1 partially because of the short-circuit protection in the TPA2100P1. However, the datasheet for the TPA2100P1 does not include any information about how the short-circuit protection is implemented, so I'm not sure if it will actually help with my issue (occasional pseudo short across piezo due to impact).

Any insight on the short-circuit protection of the TPA2100P1 or similar parts?

thanks!

  • Hi Daniel,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products.

The TPA2100P1 lowest short circuit current delivered is 1.2 A, so current levels below this will not trigger the protection.
Since this device has no FAULT pin it makes me think that the protection circuit is an auto-recovery type.
I'll look for more information about the protection circuit of this device, I'll be back you as soon as I find something new.
