No sound out to headphone J10 on TAS3308EVM-LC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS3308

I bought a TAS3308EVM-LC and loaded the TAS3308 sample process flow. I can not hear any sound output after run the code and connect the input from my PC's line out.

I tried to make a new flow that wire two signal generators directly to PWM1,2 But still no sound, may who let me know what is problem?

Thank you,

Jimmy

  • Jimmy,

    Ni hao!

You may want to talk to our SZ office, or one of our authorised distributors for help.

  • Hi,Don,

Just on business trip last week.

I tried contact sz office, and did not solve yet.

I checked there is a power down pin for the head phone amp which remains high. Then I pul it down by shorting with ground with a resistor. But except the switch on pop sound, not sound at all.

I suspected that I need to code the MCU for pull down the pin and do some initial things, but can not find the document for how to do it yet. May you give me a link?

    Thank you,

    Jimmy

  • Jimmy, what init scripts are you running? The board needs to be configured as it comes out of reset by an I2C script from the PC which should be on the CD.

If you still have some trouble have a look for some of my recent posts with help on 3308LC issues on this forum. I have developed some tricks to get the EVM to initialise itself so it works without needing a host, just power over the USB.

    Jimmy,

As per the TAS3308 Datasheet Register Settings, the PWM Modulators are disabled by default as enableing them before the TAS3308 is initialized may cause audio artifacts to be present.

Upon a TAS3308 Power on Reset (POR), the Modulators need to be started via sending an I2C command to the PWM configuration register.

Once the I2C command is written to the modulators to start, they will perform a start-up sequence that minimizes pops/clicks through an AMP. Upon completion, the Valid pin is asserted, and will turn on the NPN transistor, subsequently allowing the head phone amplifier to start it's sequence to come out of shutdown.

I suspect the PWM configuration registers has the PWM1 modulator stoped, thus this is why the headphone amp 'nShutdown' pin is logic high. A simple register configuration should solve this issue.

Let us know if this doesn't work.

  • Hi,Drew,

I am very sorry for not replying you soon. I overcame the problem by simply set the PWM on by writing "1"  to D06 of power down control register (0x10).

Thank you very much for your sugestion.
