Parallel BTL and TAS5731 question

Which of the TAS5601, 5103 and 5102 class-D power stage can operate in parallel BTL mode? Can I use one PWM BTL output of TAS5731 connected to TAS5601 for sub?

    The Power stages you mention are capable of working in PBTL mode by correctly synchronizing their inputs. Can you please provide more information of the application you are working on?, this way we can point you to the best solution.

  • Hi Diego,

    We are considering to use TAS5731 in a 2.1 system. We need about 30 W to 40 W for the subwoofer ( 4 Ohm). The other two drivers for stereo are 4 Ohm as well.

  • Hi Panson,

    The TAS5731M could be able to drive over 30W into a 4 Ohm load in BTL configuration if 4 layer PCB and correct thermal design is implemented. Please refer to Figure 18 of the datasheet.

    First of all I want to add that for 18V or higher values, we recommend to set the modulation limit to the minimum (93.8%) via register 0x10. This may limit the power but avoids the triggering of a false over-current protection due to increased RDSon because BST capacitors are not fully charged. 

    Certainly, the combination of 4 Ohm and higher PVDD is more expense to trigger OCP, but allows you to have greater instantaneous output power. If using a higher PVDD source is an option, maybe you can use 8Ohm load, above 22V PVDD you can have about 30W continuous output power in 4 layer PCBs.
