Connecting PCM2707 and DIT4096

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DIT4096, SRC4190

Hi,

I am designing a device which can transfers USB audio to AES-3 output by connecting PCM2707 and DIR4096 in their I2S features.

Since I want to limit the hardware components numbers, I selected hardware mode for DIT4096, now I am facing a I2S data format selection issue.

For hardware mode, there are few choices, but no one can match the 16 bit I2S data format of PCM2707, is it mean this solution is not work for me?

Any advise for me?

Thank you!

Stanley

  • Hi Stanley,

    Welcome to E2E!

If DIT4096 can not be directly interfaced with PCM2707 in its HW control mode, you could consider using an interfacing device like SRC4190 to couple these different rates.

  • Dear Ivan,

Thank your very much for your reply.

I had checked the spec of SRC4190, it also support 24bit I2S input only. After I double check the data format of I2S, since it is designed to put MSB on the front, if the input source is 16bit, output is set to 24bit, the remaining LSB will be force to zero, so it should be OK for option 24bit I2S. Then DIT4096 should be OK to connect directly with PCM2707.

    Am I right?

    Best Regards,

    Stanley

  • Hi Stanley,

Yes, you are right, the last bits will be zeros and ignored.
Sorry for not suggesting this earlier. I was on my way to the same conclusion after reviewing this with one of my colleagues.
