PCM2912A Volume Control

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2912A

Hi TI Experts,

Regarding the PCM2912A audio IC, is this support function of +/- volume ?

Below are some features required:

Volume control, Mute control, Mute indicator light, Support microphone & USB connector

Does all these can be done by PCM2912A?

Please advice.

Thanks,

Br,

  • Hi Teach Me,

PCM2912A volume can be controlled through the Host system, this device does not have HID controller for volume/mute but it comes with a mute control for the mic input on pin 30.
Our PCM290xC family comes with HID controls for volume and mute for the output (Volume/Mute can be controlled through Host system, too), although there is no mute indicator but I think it shouldn't be too difficult to couple an indicator to the mute switch. Another difference is that these devices have line input, not mic input so you may need some external pre-amplifying stage for a mic, you can see the schematic used for its EVM boards in the User's Guide.
I hope one of these devices fit well in your application. Let me know if you have more questions.

  • Hi Ivan,

    Thanks for the info.
For the controlled through host system, does it mean PC?
Thus, for PCM2912A, we can't perform the Volume/mute control since it doesn't have HID?

    Please advice.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Terach Me,

    Yes, I mean the PC.
Yes, the PCM2912A doesn't have HID controls, volume is controlled only through the PC that the device is connected to.
