TPA3144D2: AVCC current and datasheet errors

Part Number: TPA3144D2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3140D2

Hello,

In the datasheet of this component there are 2 example schematic layouts (page 21 and 22). Both show the AVCC beeing connected to PVCC through a 10R resistor. However, this doesn't show the required size of the 10R resistor e.g. the expected current/power to flow through this resistor. What size resistor should this be?

Also, the datasheet refers to a TPA3144D2 evaluation board for an example layout (page 29). Sadly, this board doesn't exist and a google search only shows the datasheet referring to it (TPA3144D2EVM).

Another thing, page 28 mentions 220µF or larger bulk capacitors to be used, but the example schematics use 100µF capacitors. Same for AVCC, the text mentions a 10µF cap to be used, but the schematics show a 1µF cap. Page 28 and page 29 are also mentioning pretty much the same text, where page 28 might be an extension on page 29.

Thanks,

Falco

  • Hi Falco,

Thanks for asking question on E2E. Very sorry for the confusion.

TPA3144D2 is almost the same as TPA3140D2, except the output power. So they share the same EVM design. Please refer to TPA3140D2 EVM. The EVM design was verified adequately, so please follow the design. The 220uF and 10uF description in datasheet has some margin, it still works if you use these value.

About the resistance between PVCC and AVCC, it's not a must. If it's used, the Class-D noise can be kept from entering input through AVCC, which could improve the performance. We verified the part ERJ-8ENF10R0(SMD1206 10.0 OHM PANASONIC 1% 1/4W ROHS) in our design, it works well. You can select the appropriate part accordingly.

    Best regards,
