TAS5508C: How to interface multiple Stereo ADC with TAS5508C

Part Number: TAS5508C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1808, TAS5508

Hi,

We planned to use audio PWM Processor TAS5508C in our new project, We need to implement 8 channel ADC wIth TAS5508C.

The current concept is four PCM1808 used as the input channels. But we have some doubts in its clock connectivity, how to interface its multiple clocks(From four PCM1808) with TAS5508C?

Do we need to add any additional device in between both devices?

Regards,

Jom Sabu

  • Jom,

    i am applications for TAS5508.

i don't directly support the PCM1808 but here is my take on it:

I would configure all the PCM devices for Slave mode using MD1/0 as LOW. Tie all four LRCLK together and drive them from the same source. Same with BCK and SCKI. Then send each DOUT separately to each of the SDIN pins on the TAS5508. You may be able to share SCLK and LRCLK of the PCM devices with the TAS5508 if the clock speeds and requirements match up. Check the datasheet.

I don't suspect any devices are needed in between.

Let us know when you have a schematic and we can review it.

  • Hi Adam,

    Thanks for your response!

When we connect the both device(TAS5508 & PCM1808), which one will be working as master? As mentioned in the datasheet TAS5508C is a clocked slave-only device.

The TAS5508C receives MCLK, SCLK, and LRCLK from other system components. So we need any additional master device?

We found  8-Channel A/D Converters CS5368  from cirrus logic, is this possible to work with TAS5508. The ADC will generate the clock for TAS5508.

Can you suggest any alternative part of A/D Converters (like PCM1808, CS5368 )compatible with the TAS5508 spec?

The project currently in architecture stage.

    PCM1808

  • Jom,

My mistake, one of the four PCM devices should be configured as a master, the other three PCM and the TAS5508 should be slave. Use a crystal as a master clock into the master PCM1808 device. Then all other PCM1808s and TAS5508C will be slaves taking the SCLK from the crystal and BCK and LRCK from the master PCM1808 device.

There is no need for a CS5368.

  • Hi Adam,

    Thanks for your valuable information!

Is it possible to connect single crystal for entire system clock SCKI (4-PCM1808 and TAS5508 )?
