PCM5242RHBEVM: Right for my project ?

Part Number: PCM5242RHBEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PUREPATHCONSOLE, PCM5242, PCM5252

Heya mate

I've recently started a final year project and was looking at the PCM5242RHBEVM evaluation board and was wondering

1)Is there a manual for Purepath i can read so i can get a full understanding of it
2) i understand the DAC itself is specialised for the board, so are there any other mini dsp dac's that i can interchange it with ?
3)My end game is to  create a portable dac amp, for use on PC and Android phones, does this product support android, and for PC what drivers are needed ?
4)am i safe to assume that i can interchange the hardware; op amp, headphone amp (anything after the dac output) and still be able to use purepath ?
5)Can i use Pure path to create switches on the device, eg eq adjusting (bass, treble highs), gain, volume switch ect ect ?

Is this product right or me. and if not what could you recommend ?

-thanks
Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

    1. Yes, after requesting access for PurePathConsole and PurePath Studio you will have access to more documentation.

    2. The board is specialized for specifically the PCM5242, but you probably use the PCM5252 as well.

    3. The PCM5242 is a stand alone audio DAC that must be give PCM (I2S, for example) data to convert.  The EVM uses the TAS1020 to allow audio streaming via USB to the PCM, and we have a driver for windows to communicate with the TAS1020.  Any other platform would require some development if you wish to communicate to the EVM.  Otherwise any PCM data source would work.

    4. Yes, assuming the amplifier is capable of having a ground centered, differential input.

    5. Yes - purepath allows you to configure the Hybrid Flows for the parameters you care about.  Some of the features you mentioned are also accessible from registers as well.

Thanks for using the e2e forums!
