PCM5141: PCM5141 Memory questions

Part Number: PCM5141
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5142

Hi  All,

we have quesitons about PCM5141 GUI and memory.

1. The default value of “ cycles” in GUI source  is 0x388,  in which cases the “cycles” will be changed, and which range of the “cycles ”is correct ?

2. the datasheet mentions that Instruction memory of PCM5141 is 1024 24 bits , however, the GUI only shows 0x200 that only 512.  How many memory we can use, if it is 1024 24bits, how to use the rest memory

.

Thanks!

  • Hi Sheldon,

The number of cycles is configurable and essentially limited by the sampling frequency.  Table 32 in the PCM5142 datasheet shows the range of SCLK for each sample frequency, fS.

For example, if their application requires 1024 instructions per sample, then the maximum fS you could operate at is 48kHz.  There is another register, reg 27 that is the DSP clock divider that can reduce the DSP clock from the SCLK if desired.

As far as the memory is concerned, the datasheet is confusing on this matter.  On table 49 it is clarified that of the 1024 24-bit instructions, instruction 512-1023 are reserved.  The user only has access to the first 512 instructions.

Please let me know if you have any more questions!
