TAS5717: is TAS5717 the cheapest option for DAC + 3W (or above) Stereo?

Hello I need to design a system with digital I2S input + 3W (or above) stereo amp, with a TAS5717 at 1.65$ is there a cheaper solution out there?

My constraint is a power supply of 5v

Hello I assume you need to have the headphone amplifier? If not you could look at our low-power devices: www.ti.com/.../products.html D;Class D Boosted&p1055max=Stereo. Otherwise the choices are a bit limited for a stereo amp plus headphone. Thanks, Jeff

No I do not need the headphones, but still with your link (broken?) I can only see the 5717 with stereo dac + amp...

Am I missing something?

Hi Olivier,

As Jeff mentioned above, most of our mid-power devices can't support 5V PVDD. But our TAS5753MD can support as low as 4.5V PVDD. Please check this device to see whether it is appropriate.

Thanks guys for your anwsers,

So it leaves me with only 2 choices? (with stereo, digital intput, 5v VDD)

TAS5753MD @ 1.98$

TAS5717 @ 1.65$

I could also go with 2x mono chipset but it always ending up above the price of a 5717 with a more complex layout...

Do you have any other ideas before I pickup an evaluation board? Let me know if you have deals for TI's fans :) ?

Hi Olivier,
Thanks for being interested in TI devices. TAS5717 is an old device, while TAS5753 is much newer and have more resource internally(3-band AGL, more EQ). About software, TAS5717 supports PPC2 GDE GUI, while TAS5753 supports PPC3 GUI. The later one is much more friendly. But the former one looks more economical. It finally depends on your requirement.

Price is key in that product, so I will go with the TAS5753MD evaluation board.
One more question with my VDD at 5V 3A wich is the low limit of the oparting range, will I still be able to have 10w output?

Hi Olivier,
If you use 5V PVDD, the maximum output peak value Vp is close to 5V. So the max output power is only 3.125W with 4Ohm load. It's even lower for larger load.

So could I add a step-up to raise my 5V to 26v to enable TAS5753MD to perform at a max output of 25W? I guess that this is what most bluetooth speaker manufacturer use for device with a usb input...

Is there any specific design specificity I should be aware if I go to this path?

Hi Oliver,

You are right, many customer get a higher output power from audio amplifier by boosting the power supply voltage. Please refer to the Figure5 in the datasheet, which shows the output power vs. Power supply voltage. You could determine how much power supply volatege should be used for your application.
